If you are taking traditional impressions in your practice, then you are probably wasting money and product. You need to ensure you are using the right impression material and the right tools for the job – especially your mixing tips.
Most dentist still think that one mixing tip is the same as another, but this is far from the truth.
Helical mixing tips waste up to 3ml of impression material per cartridge, which can cause dental practices to have higher stock managing costs than necessary. Although helical mixing tips tend to be longer and allow more space for the product to be efficiently mixed, it also means that the precise applications become difficult for the dentist, often resulting in more product needing to be removed during treatment.
In isolation, 3ml seems like a very small amount. However, when put into perspective of how many times a week that 3ml of impression material is wasted, the true volume of waste caused by helical mixing tips adds up fast.
The T-MixerTM automix tips from Henry Schein utilise an innovative, compact design based on the latest mixing technology in order to reduce waste volume by up to 40% compared with established helical mixing tips. Despite its shorter geometry, the consistent handling of the T-Mixer achieves an even more homogenous mixing result and therefore safer application.
As well as this, the T-Mixer has a shorter, more compressed spiral for mixing the base and catalyst of the impression material. It will initially be a slightly longer extrusion to mix in the first place, however the mixing tip used remains in situ as a cap on the cartridge each time. The result of that is there is approximately 30% less material left in the tip than in a conventional tip. Hence the saving of material.
T-Mixer comes in different sizes, distinguishable by their different tip colours. The yellow, pink and green sizes were all evaluated by 30 consultants in 985 use cases and received an incredible 96% clinical rating.
In testing done by THE DENTAL ADVISOR it was confirmed that 25-40% less waste was produced by the T-Mixer when compared to longer, standard mixing tips. T-Mixer tips also do not adversely affect the critical mechanical properties of elastic recovery and strain-in-compression for impression materials or flexural strength and modulus for the restorative materials tested.
From those surveyed, 67% of consultants rated T-Mixer better than other mixing tips they were using and 20% rated it equivalent. Furthermore, 83% said they would switch to T-Mixer and 87% would recommend it to a colleague.

The T-Mixer was distinguished by THE DENTAL ADVISOR as an Editor’s Choice for Best Value Product, with one consultant commenting: “I found the MIXPACTM T-Mixer tips to be an excellent product, providing savings to the office without changing procedures.” The innovative T-Mixer has also repeatedly been the Top Product Award Winner, which has fuelled enthusiasm among experts.
The T-Mixer has changed the principle of static mixing by using shearing and stretching forces. The individual molecules are distributed more homogenously, which facilitates improved reactivity of the material. The shorter mixing tips are ideally suited for clinical application as they allow an enhanced level of precision. The T-Mixers are compatible with the existing MIXPAC cartridge systems, and, as the colours of the retaining ring have been maintained, the T-Mixers are just as easy to identify as the original MIXPACTM product.
