Some level of periodontal disease affects almost half of UK adults, with a peak in prevalence in adults between 60 and 641. Not only does it affect a patient’s teeth and gums, but research is now showing that periodontal disease has systemic links to other diseases and conditions including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease rheumatoid arthritis and kidney disease.
With the support of Acteon you can effectively diagnose, communicate, discuss, treat and review to ensure successful periodontal outcomes for your patients.
Periodontal disease is inflammation of the gums, caused by the presence of bacteria at the gum line. There are two basic types of gum disease, gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is reversible at first, but if left untreated can lead to periodontitis, which is irreversible and can cause the bone around the teeth to deteriorate.
Problems arise when bacteria is allowed to build up to form plaque around the base of the teeth. If this is left undisturbed, then the gums will respond with inflammation. This can be manifest as bleeding when brushing or eating, and gums may appear red and swollen. Over time this can lead to gums receding to expose the roots of the teeth, and in serious cases, teeth may fall out.
There is now substantial and growing evidence that the toxins and inflammation caused by periodontal disease can also affect other parts of the body and negatively influence other conditions.
Periodontal disease is preventable and treatable, but does your practice need support implementing a successful periodontal therapy workflow?
The S3 treatment guidelines implemented by the European Federation of Periodontology and adapted by the British Society of Periodontology for the UK market, is a scientific, evidence-based protocol that Acteon recommends practices follow. This clear and precise workflow highlights the importance of patient engagement before treatment can commence. Acteon has a complete periodontal product portfolio to help at every step.
An intraoral camera is vital to support you in communicating effectively with the patient.
The C50 full HD camera from Acteon was developed specifically to assist the dental professional during prophylaxis and periodontal treatment in the dental office. It does this by highlighting plaque, gingival inflammation, and caries, even in the early stages.
The innovative SOPRO technology uses fluorescence and selective chromatic amplification to assist you in all your treatments.

For patients, comfort is maximised in several ways:
A simple definition of CAD/CAM dentistry is the use of digital software to design and manufacture dental restorations and prostheses. CAD stands for computer-aided design and CAM stands for computer-aided manufacturing. The technology can be used to create crowns, dentures, inlays, onlays, bridges and veneers among other things. The speed of the CAD/CAM process allows for dental prosthetics to be designed, manufactured and delivered to the patient in quick time, sometimes the same day. The wider system of using computer assisted technologies to produce restorations is known as CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Aesthetic Ceramics).
With 3 interchangeable nozzles, the AIR-N-GO from Acteon provides a continuous, accurate and controlled spray. These nozzles offer power, efficiency, and control for supra- and sub-gingival treatments.

The Bliss range has also taken inspiration from the high level of success of stainless-steel cutlery. It has been used as an example of the long-term benefits of using high-quality stainless steel for the metallic, working part of the hand instrument. The Bliss range can also benefit from the latest sharpening techniques for stainless steel cutlery. This is vital for hand instruments as the performance of the tip ensures the quality of the treatment.
